It could be said that Amani's art journey began when his young transient parents dropped him off in a wicker basket at an unknown reservation in northern Arizona. When asked, Amani's first memory was the smell of Volkswagen bus exhaust, a cloud of clay dust and a fading Grateful Dead decal slowly disappearing into the hills. As the Volkswagen faded out of vision a shadowy figure emerged from an active sweat lodge smelling of fine cedar and burning coals. Suddenly a feeling of weightlessness came over Amani, as he glanced to see where this force was coming from he saw the pattern of a blanket. This pattern is as etched in his mind as it is in his glass work.
