Seth Troxler x Bill Patrick - "In Between - A Photography Book"
About this product
From February to November 2023, the American musician and photographer Bill Patrick joined his long-time friend, the Michigan-born DJ and producer Seth Troxler, on a world tour. During those ten months, the pair passed through four continents, twenty countries and over forty cities. Combining elements of photojournalism, music photography, and portraiture, Patrick documented this fast-paced journey using various analog cameras. The resulting photographs offer an intimate glimpse into life on the road and a kaleidoscopic reflection on velocity. Most importantly, In Between is an ode to friendship. Featuring over 250 photographs and select texts, In Between is Patrick’s first photo book. It is also the first book documenting aspects of Troxler’s life and work. The book, however, does not merely focus on behind-the-scene shots. Instead, In Between challenges the tradition of live music photography by expanding into a multi-faceted photo essay. Loud nightclub scenes populated by exuberant drag queens contrast with black-and-white photographs of the Western desert of Egypt. Throughout the book, the rhythm of a buoyant nightlife is punctuated by moments of solitude and rest. Meanwhile, street photographs offer a glimpse into the cultural fabric of otherwise anonymous cities. Here, social observation meets the absurd in ways evocative of Nan Goldin and Joel Meyerowitz. The works are shot in 35mm using a combination of vintage cameras. As a result, the granular quality of the photographs gives them a timeless feel, which contrasts with the procedural pace of the series. The technology of yesteryear captures moments of a fast trip. In-betweenness is the protocol governing the work: we are neither here nor there, now nor then. The only guiding principle is the admiring gaze of a friend. 1st Edition Print Run - 700 copies Size: 204 x 272 mm Pages: 272 Weight: 1.1 KG
