Not unlike many fans of Broad City, I found Comedy Central’s hit series by accident. While exploring Hulu one Saturday morning in 2014, I stumbled upon the show’s first season and proceeded to smoke several bowls and binge watch all 10 episodes. I’d never seen a stoner comedy featuring female buddies before—much less, queer women—so I felt connected to Abbi and Ilana from the start.
Since Broad City aired over five years ago, we’ve watched Abbi and Ilana share bowls, joints, and bongs all over New York City, but the show has done so much more than make us laugh.
Thanks in no small part to Broad City’s wildly successful five-season run, Weed Kweens from all walks of life are dominating both small and big screens these days. From Olivia Milch’s 2018Netflix film Dude to Margaret Cho’s comedic drama Highland to the stoned moments we’ve started seeing between women characters in mainstream television—like when Beth and Zoe share a joint in the current season of This Is Us—it looks like Hollywood is finally understanding that women like weed.

Season 1, Episode 10: Abbi and Ilana Take a Smoke Break During Dinner
When Abbi pees out a condom during her birthday dinner, Ilana does what any good friend would do: smokes her up in the alley behind the restaurant. Abbi offers a hit of their blunt to a bus boy who’s taking out the trash, and all three of them end up giggling about Lady and The Tramp. Like so many Broad City moments, this scene is the epitome of #CannabisCommunity.
Season 3, Episode 1: Abbi and Ilana Hit Bongs in Their Bathrooms
The opening scene of Broad City season three shows Abbi and Ilana using their bathrooms for all kinds of fun and ridiculous activities, but watching the girls take a whole year’s worth of bong hits is the best part. I mean, who hasn’t ripped a bong in their bathroom before?

Like a true pal, Abbi agrees to cover Ilana’s shift at her food co-op so that Ilana can go to the doctor. In turn, Ilana helps Abbi “become” her. The gal pals swap outfits, recite “yas kween,” and practice goofy faces—but not before they hit the vape super hard.
Season 3, Episode 4: Ilana Searches for All the Stray Weed in Her Apartment
No one actually gets high in this clip, but watching Ilana search every nook and cranny of her apartment for stray weed is such a familiar scene for most cannabis consumers that it had to be included. We’ve all been there.
Season 3, Episode 7: Abbi and Ilana Get Lit on Ilana’s Roof
When they both rent their pads to total strangers for the night, Abbi and Ilana decide to camp out on Ilana’s roof. The duo almost immediately ends up losing their tent to gusty East Coast winds, but not before they swap awkward sleepover stories over a joint. As cringe-worthy as it is hilarious, this stoned moment makes me giggle every time.
Season 4, Episode 4: Abbi and Ilana Try to Vape Away Their Post-Shrooms Comedown
After a full day of tripping balls in the Big Apple, Abbi and Ilana try to offset their post-shrooms comedown by vaping lots of weed, but they overdo it and freak out instead. Colorful and a little unsettling, this comic scene could—cue Ilana’s voice—literally double as a PSA for microdosing.
Season 4, Episode 7: Abbi and Ilana Share a Joint With Ilana’s Family
When Abbi and Ilana get caught smoking weed during a family trip to Florida, they end up toking with Ilana’s mom, aunt, and brother. In the style of another cannabis classic, That 70s Show, the whole family forms a smoke circle and listens to the matriarchs reminisce about their youth. This adorable and (if you’re lucky) relatable scene is one of my favorites in the series.
