Cherry AK-47
9/26/2021
Was actually really disappointed in this pheno after not having AK-47 in many, many years. I was looking for a hybrid that leaned on the sativa side for a daytime smoke for my chronic pain, sadly the local dispensary stopped listing terp and even THC content on their menu because I would not have bought it for this purpose had I known my batch would pack 1.5% myrcene!
I get a small amount of fruit when I smell, but I mostly smell hops and even looking for cherries, I can't find them in there. Now I get that the strain isn't ideal for what I was looking for, but I will say it fell flatter for me than most anything has in a while.
Now if im willing to drag out big bertha and go nuts, I can indeed get myself to a nice medicated state that is primarily cerebral, but the sedation from the myrcene leaves you just wanting to lay around, not really a good strain for getting things done in my opinion. I will say its claim to fame may be it's ability to not induce sleep with it's terpene profile... it may be very useful for people that need something heavy in the head for anxiety or nausea during the day without being overwhelmed with somnolence. I was plenty able to go about my daily tasks, but it wasn't because this strain was energizing so much as you just don't seem to have the burn out crash and the AK genetics seem to overcome the myrcene to keep you from sleeping away the afternoon.
Personally, I have a long list of symptoms cannabis helps, but i noticed I was having to use about an extra 1/3 to get the relief the strain has to offer, and it was to far fewer symptoms than most strains hit. And by then, I'm baked, just not groggy. Also, I felt very little medical benefit compared to other strains, even ones classified as sativa dominant or sativa, as this one usually is. Personally, I could see medical users enjoying this at times they feel like they can relax on the couch for a bit and recover peacefully, not much more and personally I prefer to sleep on days like that.
Now my guess - especially comparing my experiences in high school before my injury - would be that this strain would be a pretty forgiving hybrid for recreational users to enjoy without being overly sedating or racy while still producing a very strong, cerebral high. I can't really rate intoxication levels with my constant dosing, but my guess is this would "feel" about as strong as any non-med user would want in a strain.
Don't take this as a bad review, I just found the flower disappointing because I was expecting energizing, sativa effects and I'm finding it to be closer to the opposite. Now everyone's different, and this was from a brand I've never tried before and it's labeled "rough cut" although the flower looks fine enough. Just poorly cured and the smell isn't anything I'd hype up, altho the taste is quite pleasant and there is a pleasant fruity aroma to it, I just don't get cherry anywhere and theres so much myrcene it grosses me out (hops.)
Honestly, the best use I could think for this strain would be before getting into bed to watch a movie I actually don't want to fall asleep thru while on vacation. It's very mentally stimulating while also being relaxing, but not overly sedating. It has its place, I just don't think it's anything I'd be in a hurry to spend money on again and probably not the first go to for medical users, but recreational users may find this a very "fun" strain! Just don't buy if you're looking for a sativa buzz, its very balanced.
