NETA - Brookline (Boston) - Rec

This place served as the gold standard when we first passed legalization of mmj. This place was so insanely busy that it was really hard to shop here if you had physical limitations or couldn't deal with crowds, and strain and weight limits were a pain. However, it's calmed down a lot. There are usually 8 strains of flower offered, nice variety. A lot of it tests lower than it did a year ago, but they still have many stand out strains, especially sativa (many other shops are limited in sativa options). If you like Rem pens, they have a vast selection. In my opinion, their chocolate bar is the best around (I prefer the hybrid bar but all 3 are great). Also, this place is a non-profit, which I really like. No real cons for NETA except the location can be tough to get to and they close earlier than shops that are closer to me, so I can only really get to them on the weekend. My other areas for improvement for NETA seem to already been implemented. They've got seating all along where you stand in line so you can sit if it's really busy, and if you are overwhelmed by people or have anxiety issues they can offer you consultation in a separate room. Also, I haven't used it lately but they do have a setup where you can do "to go" orders by filling out a slip if you know exactly what you want already. Great place. I'd visit more if they were closer/open later.

If GR were closer to my home or work, it would be my primary shop. The staff is warm and knowledgeable, and extremely receptive to feedback and suggestions for products. Their edible menu is not huge but it stands in my opinion as overall best tasting and very high quality. They also make the best cartridges in the area. I don't buy them elsewhere anymore. My favorite strain hasn't been available lately but when they have it, it's out of this world! Also, this place is run by a doctor (anesthesiologist) which i think is great.

This is the place that broke my heart. I'll start with the good stuff though: The woman who typically signs you in at the front desk is AMAZING. Pleasant, knowledgeable, cool. The people helping you with your orders are friendly and although they seemed to have some newer (less knowledgeable) staff still training up, they all work collaboratively - if you have a question that your person can't answer, they'll ask someone. I appreciate that. Flower variety is off the charts here. Always switching it up. Concentrates are very high quality and their cookies are great. Cons: Strain of the month club started great, ultimately kind of turned into a ripoff. The flower here is ultra dry as compared to other local shops. Not sure if it's the pre-packaging? Also, over time the variety in flower started to include several lower/mid level quality strains with just a couple high quality ones. I looooove variety, but I'd rather have just 4 killer options instead of sifting through many mediocre ones trying to find the standout. All of the above named cons I was still willing to overlook when I balance it with the pros, but the last one has caused me to stop visiting Patriot, probably forever. The last time I tried to visit, I was denied entry. I needed my medicine and I had traveled there during a terrible downpour. I finally arrived 15 minutes before closing, and for where Patriot is located it can be tricky (whether you're on foot or you drive). A security guard (not the usual one) informed me that they were too busy and no one else could come in. I told him I really needed my medicine, I'd traveled in the pouring rain and I would never make it to the next closest dispensary in time. I got a very insincere "I'm sorry" and he turned away. I stood under a building awning next door and called Patriot. I figured for sure if I got someone on the phone, they'd let me in. No answer. I left a detailed message with my phone number. No one let me in that day, and no one returned my call (ever). As much as I loved this place, out of principle I just can't go back. To not even return a customer call is really poor, and not letting me in because they were busy when that place is so difficult to get to still irritates me when I think about it. There are many more choices for mmj than there were even 6 months ago, so I can't justify going back. I also learned that Patriot was very vocal and put up money to try to block legalization of recreational mj. They made a deal with the city where they grow which is only worth it for them if everything stays Medical only, but it will cost them if the state goes Rec. I guess for Patriot leadership, it comes down to politics and profit instead of people. It makes me sad, because this place got into the scene early and I loved them :-(

This is the closest shop to my home and it's a really good one. In terms of overall menu, this place has tons of options. They have bar none the most creative edible menu around. Pizza, mac and cheese, all the candies/sweets as expected, and a line of very effective drinks. The flower menu is a blessing or a curse depending on if you prefer predictability or seeing new stuff. They tend to have the same strains (and not as many as other shops) BUT what they consistently have is high quality. Black Widow is one of my faves and they always have it. Reward program is great and this location always has a strong selection of accessories/pipes/vapes etc. Only gripe as of late is that my fave strains have had slightly lower thc recently. But this is occurring in several of the local shops also.

If I'd reviewed this place a year ago, the rating would have been mediocre. However, this place has stepped it up quite a bit. They have some very high THC strains which I appreciate because lately it seems many of the local shops have struggled with that. One thing IGH excels in is edibles. I find I need less mgs per dose with a number of their edibles than I would with a comparable edible elsewhere. Their service was never bad in my opinion, but lately it is incredibly stepped up. There are 3 ladies I see in there frequently who are extremely consultative and professional, and they seem to know their offerings inside and out. Also, this might sound dumb, but this is one of only a couple of local dispensaries that I don't feel like I need to recap my order and check for each item. Many places around here forget an item when you order more than 2 or 3 things. Thumbs up for the new delivery options, the reward program, and the friendly security who always greet me. My only suggestions are to add some seating for when there is a line, and maybe add 1 potent sativa to the menu.
