The guy in the background seemed too busy to help the girl on the phone, who was great.

Genius, their website has you enter in your MMIC card and it's instantly validated.
If you do have an MMIC don't fall for their tax free Tuesday; they mask the 'savings' by marking up the product to make up for waiving the retail tax.
Seems shady to me at least.
