Star Buds - Kirkland

8/14/2015
I have already reviewed this shop. Just adding a comment on the review by JamesBongDoubleO420, who implies this place sells "dirt weed" and "wet bud". I have purchased 5 strains from Mary Jane so far. All were excellent, and I salute the growers.

Lamb's Bread Mango

Finding a good strain is only the first step. You need to get it from the right grower. In the next era of legal weed, consumers will focus on growers like wine snobs focus on vintners. My purchase of Lamb's Bread Mango was cultivated by Dama. It had fancy packaging like I was buying a phone accessory, and once it was opened, there was no way to reseal it. Disappointing. But on to the important stuff... The herb itself was 25% THCA. (A word to the wise: If you VAPE, increase your heat setting for high THCA weed. You need heat to convert THCA to THC and other wonderful cannabinoids.) So... how was it? Wow. Really, a major player. Hats off to Dama on this one. It had a creep-weed delay but once it hit, it was full-on sativa. A burning need to be with people and laugh for no good reason. Recommended for dinner parties and for artsy types who reach the point where only introspective jaunts can clear the pipes of creation.

OG Kush

4/14/2015
Freaky strong and dreamy-weird at times. Felt like I was wearing a meat helmet. Sure it was good but bliss is not about getting as high as you can. (If you're at that stage of youth, I salute you, but you'll find greater things. Just hang. You'll see.) Anyway, OG Kush is sinister, wicked, and a wonderful vacation in limbo with no TSA searches. Five minutes and it's stroking your cerebral lobes like a skull whisperer. Fifteen and you find yourself staring at patterns in the carpet and thinking, "I can't believe I just solved the world's problems! Wait... I think there's some Rocky Road in the... hold on, what was I thinking about problems?" Next day: A bit foggy, and bizarre dreams that night. Yeah, OG Kush is one of those Brain Cloud strains. Damn impressive, but a mind-smack separation from reality doesn't let you experience things -- it just separates you from reality. Weed this intense makes you feel like there's a thick blanket of gauze between you and the universe. Sometimes that can be a lifesaver but if you're getting this numb on a regular basis, maybe step back and take a look at things. Just sayin'.

Satori

4/12/2015
Disappointing, and it's the grower's fault. The pack was about 15% light -- not surprising because the buds were too dry. I'm sure the weight was honest and true when originally prepared for retail but the packaging was just a thin, mini ziplock-style bag stapled to a business card. Even worse, there was too much stem with the bud. The cannabis was unremarkable, but an accurate assessment is impossible with the poor quality of the product. I may try this strain again down the road but I will not purchase it if marked by the grower in question, who will remain nameless.

The Novel Tree - Bellevue

First off, it's cool they advertise not only their menu but their prices. The prices here are definitely lower than other shops on the Eastside, and the selection of flower is very good. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Convenient freeway access (just a couple blocks from the off-ramp.) Good choice for regulars and those who want to check out this whole "legal smoke" thing. Tried the Shiatsu Kush: Takes a little while to kick in, but a mellow and relaxed high, and certainly enough head buzz to make the world interesting. The relaxation brings a subtle weightless feeling to the torso and lower body -- a bit of floaty fun when walking. Overall, uplifting to body and mind. Good mood enhancer with undertones of "I think I'd like to hug somebody." Very mild taste for vaping. It was, however, on the dry side... this can be attributed to growing conditions and overdone drying prior to packaging. For greenhouse-grown, there is no excuse, but don't be put off by it here. What's missing is that added bit of moisture that makes smoke mellower during combustion. A Boveda packet is included if you want to use it. It's designed to emit moisture, so you store it with the herb to re-moisturize. But when VAPING herb this soft-tasting, it's not necessary. Also, the main weight loss for newly-grown flower (that ends up dry) is moisture as opposed to cannabinoids. That means you're getting more of the active ingredients (compared to non-dry herb) because it's sold by weight. Anyway, thumbs up on Shiatsu Kush, and the Novel Tree in Bellevue.
