Mandarin Dreams

4/3/2020
Mandarin Dreams from Trulieve in Sarasota, FL. Not the most potent strain in stock (that was the Crescendo @ 28.6) but I absolutely loved it in the Rosin so I picked up the flower....so here we go: Appearance/Cure/Handling: Upon breaking the seal I was punched with a really potent “bright” smell that I can’t really articulate very well here. Usually TL flower is on the drier side of well-cured, however this batch is so sticky that it sticks to your fingers In defiance of gravity. Buds are closer to tan at the bottoms due to all the kief. Seriously. Upon grinding, with the bud and the grinder frozen along with a grinder coin for kief collection the coarse ground that had almost all the outside kief knocked off still was easily formed back into dense ‘nugs’. The very fine ground flower also compacted and stayed super moist. Something that I thought was surprising given my experience with MMJ flower in FL was that the kief (which was still super cold) just stuck and compacted to itself with no pressure or effort. I start the process of compressing kief into hash by hand while it collects in the grinder and for the most part it is fluffy, dry, and has to be compressed a bit to really bind to itself. Not so with this flower! Taste: the flower is just really bright, tasty, and flavorful. I’m having trouble articulating the flavors, but it has the same refreshing ‘feel’ to the exhale of some of the more mellow Lemon strains. Given the name I’m guessing it’s some sort of citrus terpene I’m getting. Effects: Great initial head buzz! I rolled up a .5 gram j and enjoyed it upon waking as a test of its effects without the intent of getting ripped. The first five minutes began a very nice building sensation that continued past the end of the joint and continued to build for the next 20 minutes that was super euphoric and hazy. Once it settled in it gave a nice, relaxed high and tingly body, especially the legs, hands, and face. Even after quite some time it didn’t make me sleepy just smoothly released with no ill effects. That said, it would be very easy to drift off to sleep given the nice slow thoughtfulness this engendered in me. A solid 2 hours of a really nice and chill experience. I can recommend this flower for anyone that likes Indicas that will also elevate you and keep you there!

Skywalker

3/29/2020
To be clear I’m discussing the original Skywalker and not the OG....I’ve seen dispensaries mix these up....sigh. This is in my top 5 favorite FL MMJ strains, not in love with SWOG strain. I’ve had (over the course of a few months) a total of 1/2 ounce of flower as well as 4 x 1g Prerolls (for the test run). (In addition, I have this as RSO and SHO, which I’ll discuss later) The various 1/8ths clocked in at: 24.4%, 22.9%, 25.1%, and 19.8% total cannabinoids, having 0% CBD, and a mix of THCv, CBN, CBG for the final .7-1% the rest as THCA or THC. Cure/Condition: Trulieve FL grew and cured this to perfection. Not only have the chemical precursor CBG all been used up, but CBN levels are low and so it seems a solid timing on the harvest. The cure is pretty much perfect. The leaves don’t crunch and powder but neither do they resist grinding because they weren’t dried properly. WELL DONE! These buds are just slathered in lovely amber kief that sticks on the buds until you grind and will hold on to smaller pieces as well unless you do something like a grinder coin or freeze the grinder/bud first. Tons of kief from totally standard grinding, no tricks applied. Smell: The smell reminds me of the Mazar I Sharif parent....I smell earth, spice, once in a while some whiff of pine+flowers buried in there. Overall it’s incredibly pleasant and pungent but tough for me to pick out notes like I often can with Sativas. No hint of blueberry in my various samples but that could be a bad nose too! Taste: I love Indicas....but in flower form, many Landrace strains along with those closely descended from them just have the “pot flavor” after the first few puffs. Skywalker has a nice and woody flavor that doesn’t just taste like ‘burning plant material in glass’ but instead the peppery notes in the smell pop on the exhale. Inhale has a sharp and pleasant taste/feel that is similar to the sensation you’ll get with certain Lemon strains. Taste is NOT even similar, but that’s the buy the sharp burst of flavor is. Effects: Smoked with a perfectly clear mind, Skywalker hit fast (less than halfway through the 1g preroll and I knew I was in for a treat) and hard with a fantastic sense of ease and well-being in this old soldier’s body and a head high that had me thinking long, slow thoughts about long slow thoughts about long slow thoughts...... and coming back up for air only to realize I had the “Inception High” going on! Unfortunately for me, my conditions have me constantly dosed with RSO and therefore I have a baseline tolerance that can be tough for an Indica leaning plant to punch through....Skywalker doesn’t seem to have this issue at all!!! Every time I consume this strain, despite the fact that I’ve purchased four different lot numbers and therefore different batches, it comes through with a feeling of complete surety and a steady hand that helps with physical pain, emotional stressors, and holding one’s head high despite one’s conditions. Skywalker (at least the phenotype grown by Trulieve in Florida) is a fantastic medical and recreational strain that will have your body feeling fantastic and elevate your mind into playing Jedi mind-tricks on itself! Happy Trails!

Northern Hashplant

3/24/2020
I have purchased this strain 4 times from Trulieve in FL. The cure has been a touch dry for my tastes, but a 62% pack works fine and in fact since I’m actually using this to make hash the dry herb helps with kief collection. Taste: like almost all (relatively) pure Indicas, it tastes like earth, loam, moss, and the occasional flash of pine sap. Sativa or hybrids tend to have more flavor when combusting in my experience. Smell: earthy and skunky, everyone in the house knows you’ve opened the stash. It pretty much has that “pot” smell and doesn’t shine as a unique smell for me Effects: I am grinding this bud in a custom grinder I’ve rigged up, but in essence I’m just separating grades of kief and plant. The kief alone makes for an incredibly flavorful and potent Indica experience. You’ll feel absolutely fantastic and probably feel your legs and feet literally buzzing. The slightly larger but still very fine powder that is what many grinders produce as kief....smoking this packed tight on top of some coarse-ground (as a base) gives a longer and slower version of the same experience as above. Using the coarse grind for .5/1g rolls gives one a much more sedating and “stoned” effect, I’m simply guessing that perhaps the plant material contains a higher ratio of terpenes and other cannabinoids after the surface kief has been knocked off. One of my very favorite uses for this strain outside of making hash is to grind half NHP and half Jack Herer. An absolutely epic “hybrid” smoke and effect. Overall I would recommend this strain, but I would not drive 2 hours to get it!
