This Cubensis variety was created, or possibly rebranded, by “The Keeper,” a controversial figure in the mycology community.

The lineage of “JMF” remains unknown, but it has become a popular and sought-after variety for research, producing medium to large fruits as well as the occasional giant. Its caps are dark to light brown, and its stems are thick and dense.

First created and rebranded by a mycologist known as “The Keeper,” this specimen has been the cause of much confusion in the mycology world. “Blue Meanie” happened to be the nickname of a Panaeolus Cyanescens variety long before “The Keeper” began marketing the Blue Meanie Cubensis. To be clear, the two are not related.

We don’t know much about the history or lineage of this variety, but it is thought to be named for its vivid blue bruising at the slightest contact.

Blue Meanie produces thick stems with medium to large caps that are often golden brown at the center and fade to white around the edges.

Blue Meanie is suitable for the intermediate spore researcher.

Blue Meanie

This extremely popular Cubensis variety is of unknown origin. It is speculated to have been either isolated or created by mycologist, “Mr. G,” who claimed it to be a Cubensis/Azurescens hybrid. Interestingly, many mycologists dismiss his claim as a marketing tactic, asserting that a Cubensis/Azurescens hybrid is impossible.

B+ is said to be one of the most versatile Cubensis varieties, growing in a wide range of temperatures and conditions. B+ produces large, caramel-colored caps with wide, dense stems.

B+ is suitable for spore researchers of all experience levels.

Originating from cow pastures in East Plant City, Florida, this variety was collected and named Purple Mystic by “Blackdove” for the purple ring that develops around the cap of this mushroom in the wild.

Purple Mystic was distributed to members of the mycology community where it was collectively stabilized and domesticated. Quickly gaining in popularity, this fast-fruiting and prolific variety display large brown caps that fade to cream with maturity, and long, uniform stems. As veils break and spores drop the entire canopy takes on a purple hue.
