Outdoor

Cannabis grown outside, exposed to the open environment. Outdoor cannabis is generally cheaper to grow and more environmentally friendly than indoor cannabis because it uses light from the sun. A greenhouse can be used to protect and help control the outdoor environment. Outdoor cannabis is also generally considered to be of a lesser quality than indoor because an indoor environment allows for more control of the growing process.

When is the outdoor cannabis growing season?

In the Northern Hemisphere, the growing season is from spring to fall. Every place has a local climate as well, so your particular region may have some variance in growing times.

You can buy seeds as early as late January or February, but the Spring Equinox (March 20) is a good reminder that it’s time to start germinating seeds.

Some growers will germinate seeds and grow young plants initially in an indoor environment, but plants usually need to be outside by the Summer Solstice (June 20).

After the solstice, the sun will start to go down in the sky, triggering the flowering stage.

As fall approaches, plants will fatten up with buds, and harvesting using happens around the Fall Equinox (September 22).
